Take This Thread is an initiative designed to help women break the pattern of abuse. We created a shweshwe-inspired fabric that highlights some of the repeating elements of this pattern. The project benefits the women of POWA by providing skills training, raw materials, and an environment in which these skills can profitably be put to use. This allows these women to become independent enough to escape from abusive situations where financial dependence is preventing this.
The project aims to provide jobs and skills, as opposed to simply throwing money at a problem, and in the process help to heal those who have been harmed. We want to make a lasting, sustainable difference.
