Havas’ Tumi Sethebe Joins the New York Festivals 2018 Grand Jury.

The New York Festivals International Advertising Awards (NYFA) has invited Havas Johannesburg Creative Director, Tumi Sethebe, to join its 2018 grand jury. Sethebe is the second creative from Havas Southern Africa to be part of the NYFA grand jury, with Chief Creative Officer Eoin Welsh having judged the 2017 rendition of the awards.

Speaking after accepting the invitation, Sethebe said, “It’s really an honor to be invited to sit at the table with some of the best ad executives in the world. This is by far the most international panel I have ever been part of. I believe that we have an interesting point of view and I am looking forward to sharing that point of view with the world.”

“It is really fantastic to have another one of our creatives join the New York Festivals’ grand jury. It’s a nod to the stellar, future-fit work that is coming out of our Southern African team. We are very proud of him and we believe this will be an enriching experience for him, and by extension for his team,” said Havas Southern Africa CEO, Lynn Madeley.

The NYFA has more representation of cultures than any other international competition, with more than 400 of the world’s most respected, award-winning executive creative directors across all marketing disciplines making up the grand jury. “New York Festivals International Advertising Awards® has been honoring The World’s Best Advertising® since 1957. Our world-class judges review submissions in the most current and relevant categories to award creativity across all media. In order to honor The World’s Best Advertising, we require the… most talented individuals in the industry from around the world to serve on the Grand Jury,” said the Executive Director of NYFA, Michael Demetriades.

The NYFA has 19 categories of competing work, from over 80 countries. The first round judging by the grand jury will use the three-tier approach to grading work, that is, an analysis of the idea, its brand relevance and the execution. These simple metrics place all the competing work on equal footing, regardless of the hype some campaigns may have garnered. The NYFA has celebrated and honored such sterling work as Steve Waugh Foundation’s The Riderless Bike from Havas Australia, and Transport Accident Commission Victoria’s Meet Graham campaign from Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.

New York Festivals will announce the winners of the World’s Best Advertising® at Jazz in New York, USA, on Thursday 17th May 2018. For more information on the awards, visit the New York Festivals Awards website.
